Best Shelter Workshop to Deliver Healthcare Education for Women and Drug Use in Myanmar

Best Shelter organized and delivered a truly inspiring face-to-face technical support training program, the Country Liaison Trainer of AHRA in Myanmar played a co-facilitator role. The training covered various topics relevant to women and drug use, including Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), family planning, contraception, HIV and STI prevention, gender-based violence, youth and family issues related to drugs, Best Shelter (BS) activities, community-level responses to drug use, withdrawal and overdose management, harm reduction modalities, basic knowledge of HIV, and basic knowledge of TB.

The training organized by Best Shelter, in Myintkyina, was a resounding success, AHRA is proud we co-facilitated this training program:

  • Held at the Cartel Hotel from 13th to 15th March 2023, the two-day training brought together participants from diverse backgrounds, including implementing partners, consortium members, and civil society organizations (CSOs). Notable organizations in attendance included the Kachin Land Research Center, Assembly of God Victory Rehab Center, Ram Hkye, Malika Foundation, Shan Women Development Network, Kachin Baptist Convention, Anglican, and Kachin Women Union.
  • Participants highly welcomed the training, considering it an invaluable learning and sharing experience. They praised its comprehensive, lively, interactive, and informative nature, highlighting its direct applicability to their work.
  • The overwhelmingly positive evaluation underscores the effectiveness of the training program in equipping participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to address women and drug use issues, promote sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and implement harm reduction approaches in their respective contexts.

By supporting the delivery of impactful training by our partners, AHRA significantly contributes to building the capacity of individuals and organizations in the field of harm reduction. Our efforts strengthen collective endeavours in Southeast Asia to address the specific challenges and needs related to women and drug use while promoting a holistic approach that encompasses SRHR, HIV/STI prevention, and other relevant subjects.
