April 09, 2025

The AHRA Secretariat, along with Pascal Tanguay and the Expertise France funded Technical Assistance Team, came together for an insightful and collaborative strategy retreat to shape the future of harm reduction in Southeast Asia, laying the groundwork for the upcoming Southeast Asia Harm Reduction Forum.

Day 1 (April 7), we kicked off the retreat by reflecting on AHRA’s strategic vision and current strengths, mapping our value proposition and ecosystem. Key discussions focused on identifying areas for growth, partnerships, and positioning to enhance our impact in the evolving harm reduction landscape in Southeast Asia.

Day 2 (April 8), building on Day 1, we continued to explore the annual Regional Harm Reduction Forum, AHRA’s role in the region, diving deeper into strategic planning and mapping out our future initiatives. With valuable input from the team, we focused on ways to strengthen regional collaboration and expand AHRA’s services and memberships/partnerships.

Day 3 (April 9), we concluded with powerful sessions led by global experts Pascal Tanguay, Prof. Nick Crofts, and Shona Schonning, where we deepened our strategic thinking on the inception of the Regional Harm Reduction Forum as a model to shape the future of harm reduction in the region, and for technical assistance and service delivery. We also worked on strengthening regional coordination and prioritizing next steps for institutional growth, paving the way for an impactful Southeast Asia Harm Reduction Forum.

A special thank you to Pascal, Nick, Shona, and the entire Technical Assistance team for their expertise and guidance. Together, we are shaping a more responsive and impactful AHRA to drive harm reduction efforts across Southeast Asia.
