Join the Global Movement: International Overdose Awareness Day 2023 Calls for Action to Recognize the Unseen

Unite to End Overdose Tragedies and Extend Compassion to Those Affected

International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD), the world’s largest annual campaign dedicated to confronting the overdose crisis, is right around the corner on August 31st, 2023. This year, IOAD rallies communities, organizations, and individuals under the theme of “Recognizing those people who go unseen”, urging us all to play a pivotal role in bringing about positive change.

Every year, countless lives are lost to overdose, leaving a trail of heartbreak and grief for families and friends. IOAD stands as a beacon of remembrance and a call to action. As the overdose crisis continues to impact lives globally, it’s time for us to come together and raise our voices against stigma and in support of those who often remain hidden in the shadows of this crisis.

We invite you to take action:

  1. Spread Awareness: Use your voice and social media platforms to share facts, stories, and resources about overdose prevention. Together, we can educate and empower our communities.
  2. Host or Attend Events: Organize or participate in local events, workshops, and discussions that shed light on overdose risks, prevention strategies, and support systems. Let’s create safe spaces for open conversations.
  3. Support Affected Individuals: Reach out to individuals struggling with substance use, offering empathy, understanding, and resources. Your support can make a world of difference.
  4. Collaborate with Organizations: Partner with local or global organizations working towards ending the overdose crisis. Together, we can amplify our impact and create meaningful change.
  5. Advocate for Policy Changes: Engage with policymakers to drive policy reforms that prioritize effective and compassionate strategies for dealing with substance use and overdose.
  6. Remember and Honor: Participate in memorial gatherings to honor those we’ve lost to overdose. Let’s stand together in solidarity with grieving families.
  7. Educate Yourself: Educate yourself about the complexities of drug use and (10%) dependence, mental health, and overdose. Knowledge is a powerful tool for combating stigma.

The International Overdose Awareness Day 2023 campaign is a call to recognize the hidden faces of this crisis and extend our collective compassion. By joining forces, we can dismantle the barriers that prevent individuals from seeking help and pave the way for brighter, healthier futures.
